Complete with great live entertainment, dancing, vendors, food, drinks, fun activities, triathlon, races, car show, and a big fireworks display, Summerfest 2017 was a success. A huge thank you to the committee, all volunteers, and sponsors who make the biggest event in Deep River a weekend of fun for all ages. We enjoyed a crazy day of unpredictable weather as we gave out samples of kombucha and 12oz cups alongside some great vendor friends. Local bands floored us with their talent and we certainly enjoyed the evenings of music and mingling. Until next year, Summerfest!
(I regret to not have brought my camera to capture more amazing moments from the weekend, but I was too busy having fun!)

We stayed close to home this weekend and enjoyed the Canada Day 150 Celebrations in Deep River. The rain held out for most of the day until the skies opened up and dumped buckets of water on us. We had plenty of time to hand out samples and glasses of kombucha and loved seeing all the familiar faces out to partake in the fun. Check out the slideshow of the day from our perspective! A huge thanks to all the volunteers who made Canada Day in Deep River and awesome celebration.
We've got a jam-packed weekend of fun lined up for Canada Day weekend!
With the cancellation of Emerge Yoga Festival, we needed to pull up our socks and get busy trying to recoup our investment. Our friends on Deep River's 150th Celebrations committee have invited us to join the vendor area downtown Deep River by the waterfront on Saturday, July 1st. With free yoga, kids activities, a reptile show, photo booth, beer garden, live music, vendors, food, fireworks and more, there is plenty of fun for the whole family! We will have a booth set up from 11am-4pm and again from 7pm-9:30pm with four flavours of kombucha on tap. Please note that we will only be selling cups not bottles, but you are more than welcome to bring a bottle or mug to be filled. Our amazing friends at White Pine Yoga have made lemonade from lemons! With so many of us affected by an abrupt end to the yoga festival that was to take place this weekend, they have created an impromptu yoga festival, Lemonade! The Pembroke Marina Waterfront will be home to a one-of-a-kind FREE yoga festival this Sunday, July 2 from 11am-5pm. Featuring several yoga classes, aerial yoga demos, stand-up paddle board sessions, and a yogi vendor market, this is a festival you don't want to miss! We will be joining local vendors with kombucha on tap to keep you hydrated and refreshed during the classes. Come enjoy an afternoon of yoga and support local businesses! Plenty of sun and smiles at the second Deep River Farmers' Market of the season. We had fun offering free samples, kombucha on tap, custom sample size glasses, and frozen kombucha pops. The nice weather played a big role in the success of the booch pops, being sold out within the first hour. We hope to offer them again with a pop-up frozen kombucha pop sale again this Summer, so stay tuned! We have decided that this year, we would not be offering our refill program at the market as our kombucha is already available at various locations in the area. Also, we have a busy Summer ahead of us and will not be back to the market until the Taste of the Valley at the end of September. We thank you so much for stopping by our booth and will see you again soon!
We will be at the Deep River Farmers' Market this Saturday from 10am-1pm with kombucha on tap and KOMBUCHA POPS. Come cool off with a Strawberry or Mango frozen kombucha! Made with fresh fruit and all the goodness of our strawberry mint and mango lassi kombucha flavours.
Our favourite local farm, Wellspring Gardens will be offering our kombucha!
Set to launch their pilot Shopify online ordering system within the week, Wellspring Food Stop has been busy building raised gardens, ploughing fields, planting, tending to the animals, and preparing to offer members the first harvest of the year. We are lucky enough to have been early adopters of the membership and are eagerly awaiting the fresh goods we've come to enjoy at Wellspring Gardens from previous Farmers' Markets. Every week, the 22 members will shop the food offerings available through the online store and pick up right at the farm. Talk about fresh! With an assortment of delicious eats including greens, veggies, goat cheese & meat, eggs, pork, and a line of wood-fired baked goods including pizza, breads, scones, and beans, (and now kombucha to wash it down) the menu possibilities have us drooling. Wellspring Gardens owners, Sheila and Joe are also hosting Grace and Jess, two new farmers who have launched their incubator project Wild Path Farm on Wellspring soil. They have been working hard to get the fields ready and crops planted despite an enormous amount of rain. We are fortunate to have such dedicated farmers working tirelessly together to feed the locavores of the area. Wellspring Gardens will be at the Deep River Farmers' Market this year, so if you missed the chance to become a member, don't fret, they've got you covered with fresh, local fare at their booth. First market is this Saturday, May 27 from 10:00 - 1:00 at the Town Hall and will run every second Saturday until the end of September. See you there! Freddie's has it all! Consignment, buy/sell, accommodations, donairs, fry truck, ice cream, locally made products, fresh Maven Catering salads, and the best darn pizza around! They certainly won us over when they started offering gluten-free options for pizza and poutine gravy (shhh.. we have to indulge too ;) Right on the highway, West of Deep River, Freddie's has become a popular one-stop-shop for both locals and travellers alike. We are excited to be right in the middle of the big leagues of beverages, front and centre in the fridge with four flavours currently available; Strawberry Mint, Hibiscus Ginger, The Apple of My Chai, and Cranberry Chill. Stop in to Freddie's for a night off cooking or a tasty treat!
Lunch made easy! Every Thursday Maven Catering offers a healthy lunch option delivered right to your door or place of work. Meals are always tasty, made from scratch, and filled with healthy, fresh food. Have any restrictions? Maven Catering's got your back! We are so excited to team up and pair our kombucha with the lunch of the week. Check Maven Catering's Facebook Page, call 613-635-2223 or email mavencatering@hotmail.com and request to be added to the weekly newsletter mailing list. Order your lunch and kombucha every week by Tuesday night and take advantage of this locally made nutritious meal combo!
Cheers to the launch of our GREAT EIGHT 500 ml bottles! We've done it! Labels are on and we are gearing up to have our kombucha available in 8 locations in the Ottawa Valley including retailers in Pembroke, Petawawa, Chalk River and another in Deep River. Fully compliant with an ingredient list, nutrition panel and bar code, these are the real deal and what we've been working towards over the past year. We narrowed it down to 8 top flavours for the 500 ml size and will be continuing to offer our 1L on tap refill program with seasonal and trial flavours to mix things up. The 500 ml size is perfect for a serving or two and to grab and take on the go. We hope you enjoy our new look! It's heeeeeerrre! Our kombucha soap has cured and dried and is now ready to scrub and cleanse! The Savvy Soaperie has done an amazing job combining all natural ingredients, kombucha and essential oils for two bubbly kombucha soaps. Pick up a bar of MINT'EA or WARM GINGER at The Olive Tree, The Valley Artisans' Co-op or order online at savvysoaperie.com.
For every up, there is a down. We must always take time to rejuvenate and refocus. Our lives are busy and in order to get "me time" into a hectic schedule, you have to commit to allotting the time off for your benefit.
We always love our Tuesday night Incremental Yoga class with Kim Knight and this week she invited us to share our kombucha with the class. We sipped on booch post-yoga and had some of our favourite treats from Hummingbird Chocolate in Almonte, ON. Coming back every week to focus on ways to move better to improve posture, alignment, strength, and flexibility, Kim has led us through a wonderfully beneficial series. Our bodies and minds thank us and we thank Kim! If you're in the area check out her classes. Kim Knight Incremental Yoga Hey all! We have an *** IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***
With our new bottles in circulation, we are starting to sell off our 1L flip-top bottles (to home brewers, for weddings/events etc). We will be selling them at a discount and therefore cannot guarantee that we aren't going to somehow buy back our old bottles through our refill program. This means we will have to put a deadline in place for when we will no longer accept our flip-top bottles for exchange that do not have a label. We encourage you to either keep your flip-tops (some of you are attached, we've heard :) or bring them back for an exchange of our new bottles by MARCH 31. Thanks for understanding! Well that was a first! A different venue and a one of a kind event. Kombucha and food pairings to kick off the weekend.
Maven Catering made 5 delicious courses to go with 5 flavours of our kombucha and we were in heaven. If you've ever had the pleasure of tasting anything Chef Carolyn Arnold makes, you'd know why. From the Pulled Chicken and Mango Salsa Tacos, to the Blue Cheese Stuffed Apricots with White Balsamic Reduction and Candied Apricots (fave!), each food pairing was carefully selected to bring out the flavours of the booch infusions, or vice versa. Our taste buds were tantilized and our palates pleased. Games and conversations brought friends new and old together for some laughs and friendly competition. Kombucha Kocktails were a hit, blending the best of both worlds while maintaining the beneficial properties of our cultured drink. A special thanks to Eric for bringing a wide variety of games, and many thanks to all who came out, helped out, and spread the booch love. EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it! We've changed our 1L bottles! We've swapped out the flip-top bottles for these Boston Rounds and hope you'll be as happy with them as we are. We know you might have a wonderful, loving relationship with your Ikea flip-top, but let's be honest, it just wasn't going to last. The old bottles served us well and we loved the 'pop' when you opened them but we had to travel to get them, some seals weren't locking properly, the bottles were actually 1.1L and we weren't able to recoup the true cost of everything. Sooooooooo.. here we are, with an awesome new bottle that we've had our eye on for quite some time. A true 1 litre bottle, sleek and simple with a twist-off cap to keep a better seal. This also means you will pay less with a lower cost bottle. Really a big win all 'round. We hope you like them and would love to hear your opinion. You are welcome to keep your old bottles, but our Big Booch Refill Program is still in place. Thanks for being awesome! Kombucha soap?! Yes, you read that correctly. We are super excited about teaming up with The Savvy Soaperie to have a soap made with our kombucha! A local company gaining popularity for their all natural, hand-made soaps and skin care products, The Savvy Soaperie uses Mother Nature’s purest and freshest organic ingredients, creating products that are skin & earth-friendly. We've been using their products for months and here's why we love them:
Our Warm Ginger Kombucha soap is made using kombucha twice to add to the cleansing, tonifing benefits of the kombucha itself. Using ginger, clove and orange essential oils and topped with hibiscus petals and orange peel, this soap smells heavenly. The toughest thing will be playing the waiting game as the soaps need time to cure. We will keep you posted but we don't expect our kombucha soap to hit the market until just before Spring. Until then, we strongly suggest you try ANY of The Savvy Soaperie's products (seriously, they are all amazing) available at the Valley Artisans or online at www.savvysoaperie.com A beautiful weekend to be outside! Cross-country skiers of all ages competed in the 45th Annual Silver Spoon Ski-Fest in Deep River on Saturday. We were there to boost their energy pre-race and quench their thirst after a good ski. Most of the young skiers enjoyed trying some Beau-Tea-Ful Morning and Cherry Cinnamon kombucha samples and even came back for seconds. We always enjoy getting out in the community, meeting new people in the Valley and beyond, and spreading the booch love.
Come out on Friday, February 17 for a casual evening pairing five of our kombucha flavours with delicious food made by Maven Catering, games, and cash bar with kombucha kocktails, wine and beer. A big Thank You to Lesley of BailaStudio for having us in her fitness studio this past week. We loved the energy of the classes and had fun serving up samples to everyone. Pop by the studio and try your first class for free!
New kid in town ROOT BOOCH joins the team this week. With all the ingredients of a true root beer, this kombucha is subtle yet soothingly satisfying and completely different from all the rest. Not too sweet, no extra sugar or caramel and different from the pop, we went back to the 'roots' of a traditional root beer flavour. Now on tap at The Olive Tree.
Kickstart 2017 with a BailaStudio class and complimentary samples of kombucha.
On Saturday, Jan. 14 at 9am, we will be setting up a sample station in the BailaStudio between classes. You can try different flavours of kombucha after the Blast class or before you begin the (NEW!) FitStart class. We will also be there Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 6:15pm with free samples for those participating in the FitStart class at that time. Feel free to come down and grab a sip of kombucha while checking out the studio, or just grab and go on your way out of your class. Located in the Glendale Plaza in Deep River beside the Pharmasave, BailaStudio has a wide range of classes for all fitness levels including FitStart, Blast, Barre, Zumba, Piloxing, Combat, Groove, Blitz, and Playfit and your FIRST CLASS IS FREE! Check out their facebook page BailaStudio for more details. Happy New Year from our family to yours! We hope you enjoyed the Christmas holidays as much as we did.
We are so thankful to have such awesome friends and family to spend time with over the break. Christmas is all about spending time with those you love, aaaaand maybe the odd gift or two. Ok... really, we just wanted to show off the sweet handcrafted flight and sample glasses we received from our bro Gabe (see above). We would also like to thank all of you for your support throughout 2016. The past year has been an amazing journey starting from the ground up and we are excited for what 2017 has in store for us. We have been working on labels for a 500ml bottle and can't wait to show you! Hopefully in the next few months we will be able to launch them. This will mean our kombucha will be available in more stores in a travel friendly size for your convenience. I mean, just because we will down a 1L bottle in under an hour doesn't mean EVERYONE will.. I guess. ;) We're working on a few events over the winter months and will have some announcements to make soon. Cheers to a great year ahead! **Spoiler alert! Our location pictured below is our brewing location only. Our booch is on tap at The Olive Tree! Open Monday to Saturday ;) From sunny and warm one day, to cold and blustery the next, it looks like Winter is now here to stay. We've enjoyed having people stop in to see our brewing location and we regret that we've missed some of you. As the brewery is for the production of our kombucha (mostly done after our daytime jobs) we aren't there on a regular basis. The Olive Tree health food store beside the LCBO in Deep River carries our kombucha on tap and is open Monday to Friday 9:00-6:00 and Saturday 10:00-5:00. At The Olive Tree you can buy 1L bottles, 12oz cups, and bring in your empties for our Big Booch refill program. Bonus: you can check out so many other great local products and health food options while you're there!
At long last! Our kombucha is now available ON TAP at The Olive Tree in Deep River beside the LCBO! With a choice of two flavours, you can fill up with our 1L bottles or 12oz cups at your convenience. We are also offering our Big Booch program for refills. This is what we've been waiting for. Thanks to Olivier for being our very first customer ever and now our first retailer! Soooooo excited!! Are you missing your stock of Laurentian Brew kombucha? We've been missing seeing you guys so we've decided that since we've passed our inspections today (woohoo!), we would open up the brewery for a pick up date! This Thursday, November 3rd from 4:30pm until 6:00pm we will be open for those who want to pick up a bottle or drop off empties. We have our Hibiscus Ginger, Meta-Boost, Beau-Tea-Ful Morning, and Pomawlue flavours. Supplies are limited and are first-come, first-served. Hope to see you soon!
