The Ottawa Valley Food Coop is a non-profit organization that provides an internet-based ordering system to facilitate the buying and selling of local food and products. The Coop supports local food, seasonal eating, farmers’ markets, farm gate sales, food literacy and food events. It recognizes the value of relationships that connect consumers and producers in building resilient, local food systems. Activities of OVFC are guided by core values of healthy communities, environmental stewardship, social justice and vibrant local economies. For a small one-time-only sign up fee of $50 (seriously, so worth it), you can become a lifetime member of the Coop and shop any of the products available. Every month, the Ottawa Valley Food Co-op is open for ordering for eight days at the beginning of the month, with delivery typically on the third Tuesday of the month. Shop from the convenience of your living room, and there's bound to be a pick-up location near you! We joined the Ottawa Valley Food Coop both as producers and as members! Taste of the Valley seasonal events are in full swing!
We had a great time attending the last Deep River Farmers' Market of the year. The final bi-weekly market joined forces with the County of Renfrew's Taste of the Valley to bring locally produced goods to the Deep River area. There was no shortage of freshly harvested produce, homemade treats, and handmade products at this years event which took place yesterday in the Deep River Town Hall parking lot. As always, we enjoyed catching up with old pals, market vendors and meeting new visitors. Our bellies and fridges are full of freshly baked loaves, desserts, wood-fired pizza, local meats, BBQ'd snacks (did you try the pulled chicken made with our kombucha bbq sauce!?), yummy jams, and a new batch of sauerkraut is already fermenting from chopped fresh cabbage. The Deep River market is one of our favourite events to attend as it is wonderfully heart-warming to see the support pour in for our local businesses. Thank you to all who came out this year and to the volunteers who never cease to amaze us with their selfless dedication. Luck was on our side as the weather took a turn for the best and skies cleared up just in time for the first Deep River Farmers' Market of the season.
We were reacquainted with our market friends from last year and welcomed new neighbours including Dana's Delectables, Ashleigh Ann's Bagels, and Forest Cove Farm. Market goers filled their baskets with fresh produce, homemade goods, and handmade products. We had fresh raspberry kombucha and jun on tap, kombucha soap and stainless steel reusable straws were available for purchase. Back by popular demand were kombucha freezies AKA booch pops and this year we really amped up the fruit. Filled with half raspberry kombucha and half organic raspberries (seriously soooooo many raspberries!), these booch pops packed a serious healthy, fruity punch. A big thanks once again to all volunteers who make this market possible, and to all attendees who make it thrive. Note: Our booth won't be at every market this season, but are looking forward to attending the next market in Deep River as customers rather than vendors. That's all folks! The Deep River Farmer's Market wrapped up it's last market of the season with the extended version for the Taste of the Valley. Smiles were as plentiful as baskets and bags of goods, and local farmers and artisans enjoyed a sunny Saturday in September serving customers from all over the Ottawa Valley.
The market was a bustlin' by 10 a.m. featuring the finest in local produce, homemade goods, handcrafted pieces, art, and tasty treats. We had kombucha on tap and free samples for both the uninitiated and loyal customers. We wish to thank everyone who came around to our booth this year and a HUGE thank you to the Deep River Farmer's Market volunteers who dedicated so much of their time to make the season a success. Plenty of sun and smiles at the second Deep River Farmers' Market of the season. We had fun offering free samples, kombucha on tap, custom sample size glasses, and frozen kombucha pops. The nice weather played a big role in the success of the booch pops, being sold out within the first hour. We hope to offer them again with a pop-up frozen kombucha pop sale again this Summer, so stay tuned! We have decided that this year, we would not be offering our refill program at the market as our kombucha is already available at various locations in the area. Also, we have a busy Summer ahead of us and will not be back to the market until the Taste of the Valley at the end of September. We thank you so much for stopping by our booth and will see you again soon!
We will be at the Deep River Farmers' Market this Saturday from 10am-1pm with kombucha on tap and KOMBUCHA POPS. Come cool off with a Strawberry or Mango frozen kombucha! Made with fresh fruit and all the goodness of our strawberry mint and mango lassi kombucha flavours.
Look at all those smiling faces! These are some of the cutest customers who stopped by our booth this season. We are getting them to love kombucha at an early age. ;) We want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has come out to the market over the past few months. We've met so many great people and just loved chatting with everyone about kombucha. We have such amazing loyal customers and we truly can't thank you enough for taking the time out of your busy weekends to come by and pick up a bottle (or 6!!). We cannot wait to get into our brewery and start increasing production to get our kombucha in stores. Very soon you will see us on tap in the area as well! Look for us at a few events coming up in the area including the Craft Beer and Food Truck Festival in Renfrew on October 22, the Craft Fair in Chalk River on Nov 20, and another home brewing workshop coming soon. We appreciate your all your support. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Tomorrow marks the second last Deep River Farmers' Market of the season. Can you believe it!? We are coming with three flavours including a debut for our newest flavour, Strawberry Mint. This one will blow your socks off! A new favourite from our kiddos, it is light and refreshing with a bold strawberry flavour and a hint of mint. Also back by popular demand is Hibiscus Ginger and Midnight Bay. We will see you there rain or shine! What a gorgeous day for a market! We had another successful Saturday in Deep River and brought the most amount of kombucha yet. Thanks to all our supporters and those who popped by for a sample. We really have such amazing, loyal customers and enjoy introducing kombucha to new faces.
Our brewery renovations are well underway and we are shaping up for a Fall opening (fingers crossed!). We are really looking forward to distributing our kombucha to the local stores so you can pick up your favourite flavour at your convenience. There are only two markets left for this year, September 17 and October 1, however we do have a few events vendor events coming up as well. Stay tuned for more info. Happy Labour Day Weekend! Three new flavours are hitting the market this coming weekend and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
THE APPLE OF MY CHAI A delicious blend of apple, black tea, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, cloves, and star anise. ELDERBERRY Simple and soft with elder berry and elder flower. META-BOOST A blend made by Katie Wolk to help boost metabolism and stabilize blood sugar featuring dandelion, green tea, cinnamon, orange peel, rooibos, fennel, ginger and turmeric. The Farmers' Market has been a huge success! We are thrilled that despite increasing production each week, we have sold out every time. We can't thank you enough for your support over the past two months. From sunshine to thunder storms, we are amazed by the friends, family, and new faces who come out in any weather to buy our kombucha. The feedback we are hearing has been very positive and word is getting around. We cannot wait to get into our new place to increase supply and distribute our kombucha to stores in the area so that you can stock up at your convenience. We really do appreciate all our new and repeat customers who come to visit us. Cheers to you all!
We will be at the Deep River Farmers' Market this Saturday, June 25th from 10:00-1:00 featuring our Wild Blueberry and Beau-Tea-Ful Morning kombucha. The Wild Blueberry is infused with just blueberries and is full of flavour and antioxidants. Beau-Tea-Ful Morning Tea is a blend from Taste-Tea Medicinals created by our friend Katie Wolk, Clinical Herbalist. With peppermint, lavender, rose petals, licorice root, hibiscus, and rosemary it is balancing and restorative to the nervous system. Rosemary is an uplifting herb while lavender and hibiscus are relaxing. Peppermint helps to stimulate the mind while relaxing the body. Rose petals give this tea blend a floral twist while licorice root adds natural sweetness. A wonderful way to start the day or to enjoy at any time. We can't wait for you to try these flavours. Hope to see you at the market! Don't forget about our Big Booch program! Return your 1 litre bottle for a $3 discount off your next 1 litre bottle. On Saturday May 28th we launched Laurentian Brew Kombucha at the Deep River Farmers’ Market. We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from the community. Nat and I had a blast serving up kombucha and we were impressed by the number of health savvy people who had tried kombucha before or who were eager to give it a go. We brought as much as we could but it still wasn’t enough, not by a long shot! We’re busily brewing more kombucha for our next farmers’ market on June 25th. Hope to see you there!
