Have you been to the Neat Coffee Shop?? If not, you've been missing out!
This gem of a café is located on Calabogie Road in Burnstown, Ontario and is an incredible place to stop for a bite to eat. We've never been disappointed! Perfect for a short road trip, the Neat Coffee Shop has a full menu including daily specials, soups, salads, and wood-fired pizza (even gluten-free!) plus specialty coffees and adult beverages. But wait.. there's more! The Neat Coffee Shop also hosts live shows and up-close-and-personal intimate concerts. The venue has seen plenty of amazing talent through their doors and has a full line-up of events planned for the Summer. Check out https://neatmusicandcoffee.ca/collections/tickets to see who's up next and to purchase your ticket. Act fast, some shows are already sold out! We're pretty excited that Co-Owner Mark Enright hopped on board the booch train and brought in three flavours of kombucha! A healthy, local brew to pair well with the delicious, made-from-scratch food in the café. Food is local when possible and they even started growing their own produce just outside the door. Stepping out onto the patio, we made some new friends and were witness (perfect timing!) to the first sip of the first bottle of kombucha sold. Now that's pretty Neat. Big thanks to Mark and everyone at the Neat Coffee Shop! This is going to be a great Summer! You may have noticed new signage up at Kerry's Place in downtown Pembroke. That's because Janna's Gallery Café has moved in just across the street to Kerry's Place to become Janna & Kerry's Over Easy Bar and Grill.
The amalgamation of two great family-run businesses is the perfect mash-up from owners Janna and Kerry. You can still pop in for your cup of hot jo (or a bottle of booch!!), stay for breakfast, lunch or dinner, AND listen to great live music. We're diggin' the fresh look, with new flooring, instrustrial-chic lighting and exposed brick, local art on the walls, and funky blue bar lights, this place is rockin' the good vibes all 'round. Stop in for locally roasted coffee, a fresh pint of locally brewed craft beer, grab a bite to eat and stay for some tunes! Lots coming up this Summer at Janna & Kerry's. Check their Facebook for updates on what's up next! The Ottawa Valley Wellness Show happened this past weekend!
We set up shop at the Renfrew Armouries with a pretty amazing group of Wellness specialists and vendors. There was lots to check out at the show including handmade products, jewelry, holistic professional and treatments, healthy eats, along with demos and workshops. Timed perfectly with the Renfrew Farmers Market, attendees wandered through the market and inside the hall for a full selection of locally made goods. We managed to snap a few shots during a slower time, when we weren't passing out booch samples, meeting new faces, and connecting with other vendors. It's impressive to see how many small businesses and entrepreneurs we have in this area. We were also stoked to meet up with some awesome longtime supporters (thank you!!). A huge shout out to Ro and her wonderful team who put together this show! Cheers to your health! Santé! Need to spice up your dish AND help to digest your meal??
We're launching our Kombucha Vinegar tomorrow at the Ottawa Valley Wellness Show!! We've been working on this for a year and are stoked it came together just in time (just barely as we we're still filling and putting on the tamper-proof seals!!). Our Kombucha Vinegar is aged raw kombucha subtly flavoured with organic herbs for two varieties: Lemongrass Schisandra and Rosemary Mint Filled with potent digestive organic acids (the same as apple cider vinegar), these babies pack some punch! They're also keto-friendly (there's less than half a gram of sugar left per tablespoon), gluten-free, and vegan. Add to salads, soups, stews, marinades, fries.... anything goes! Look for these available at our EVENTS throughout the Summer. Have you been to the White Owl Bistro?
You should. Really. This is our favourite place to eat in North Bay. First, the view. Located right along the shore of Lake Nipissing, The White Owl Bistro has the most wonderful patio. A 1500 square foot patio to be exact (hello Summer gatherings and weekend road trips with friends!). Sit in the sun, soak up the rays, sip on drinks, watch the sunset, and enjoy.... The food. Ohhhh the foooood!!! Chefs and owners, René and Laura Dubois showcase their culinary flare at The White Owl with a focus on farm to table cuisine. Using high-quality, healthy, seasonal and local ingredients (whenever possible), you'll taste the difference in each delectable bite. With a large selection, daily specials, and meals catering to specialty diets (the gluten-free batter here is a-ma-zing) there's certainly something on the menu for everyone. The service. Happy servers make the meal taste better, don't ya think? It's a package deal. I mean, who doesn't want friendly, knowledgeable and attentive service when they dine out!? This Summer, The White Owl Bistro will see live entertainment and a great selection of meals filled with locally-sourced ingredients. New to the menu is healthy kombucha! Sip on as a nice non-alcoholic refreshment (or use as a cocktail mix!) with three flavours to choose from. We suggest a lunch date, a dinner out or if you've got an event or party coming up, book it at The White Owl. You won't be disappointed. BOOCH BALM! Is kombucha lip balm a real thing??
It is now! We teamed up with Sister Moon Gems and Herbs to bring you this one-of-a-kind Peppermint Lavender lip balm. (You'll totally want to check out Sister Moon's other amazing products! We're in love with her Lavender Vanilla natural solid perfume!). Booch Balm contains all-natural, vegan ingredients including coconut oil, beeswax, shea butter, and yes, Kombucha Culture! The balm goes on silky smooth and smells like a dream. With a natural SPF of 4, your lips will be nourished and protected from the sun. You can pick up yours at our events throughout the Summer including the Ottawa Valley Wellness Show in Renfrew this Saturday. Apply before heading to the beach! HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SUMMER!!! A gorgeous Saturday for DandyFest at Dandelion Foods in Almonte.
We joined several local producers and wellness partners to showcase the goods and products available within the store. Now in its 5th year, DandyFest is an annual event that allows customers and residents to meet the makers, ask questions, and "try-before-you-buy" (who doesn't love free samples!!?). The event was also a great way for us to connect with local businesses and get to know them on a personal level. At the event this year were Ilias and Sons, Alpenblick Farm, Bee Savvy Honey, Love My Buns, Biemond Upper Canada Creamery, Fluid Solar Roasted Coffee, Sweet Cheeks Kitchen, Neal Brothers, VoxxLife, Natural Wisdom, Almonte Fitness Centre, PureLab Vitamins, AOR Health, Progressive, Lorna Vanderhaeghe, Hummingbird Chocolate, Kricklewood Farm, live music, and a BBQ featuring Seed to Sausage and Gusta Foods. We enjoyed serving up samples of Strawberry Mint and Mango Lassi to both kombucha veterans and newbies and had a few surprise visits from familiar faces. We were pretty excited to debut our new jockey box which will make dispensing kombucha at events much easier! Thanks to everyone at Dandelion Foods for putting on a great event and always supporting local! Laurentian Brew took a tour just passed Barry's Bay to the Madawaska Kanu Centre this week.
What an amazing spot!! Wow. Just the drive to get there is stunning. Passing through small, rural towns, crossing rivers, and contouring beautiful lakes, it's Ontario wilderness at its finest. We were pretty excited to deliver four flavours of kombucha to the MKC's Riverside Shop + Café. The shop serves the students, staff, and day-trippers at the centre, but is also open to the public daily from 7:30am until 6:00pm (worth the trip for a scenic drive and a good latte!). A family-run business founded in 1972, Madawaska Kanu Centre was the first whitewater paddling school in the world. Three generations of highly skilled whitewater champions have successfully owned and operated MKC as well as their sister company, Owl Rafting in Foresters Falls. Known for their elite athletic background, the founders turned their love of kayaking and canoeing into a wilderness resort and outdoor classroom to bring the passion through education to students and participants from all over the globe. The centre offers a multitude of courses and fun on the river including a 5-day Whitewater Canoe and Kayak Program, Weekend Whitewater, Family Weekends, Specialty Programs, Women's Retreats, a 1-day Intro Program, and 2-hour rafting trips. You can have fun learning in the water throughout the day, stay in the on-site accommodations (complete with a yoga room!), purchase a meal package (a week off cooking!?), and enjoy campfires at night. There's certainly something for everyone with all skill levels from beginner to advanced as well as courses in First Aid, Rescue Certification, and Instructor Certification. The centre is always open to visit and is welcoming to anyone with questions about the services. The shop is also a great place to pick up some great outdoor gifts, gear, and clothing, and grab a snack and a hot (or cold!) beverage to be enjoyed on the deck (shout out to Christine at The Hemp Cookie Co. who mentioned our beverages after delivering her own delicious hempy cookies to the shop!). The Madawaska Kanu Centre should be on your list of places to check out this Summer. The river awaits! It was a sunny Sunday so we decided to set up shop outside for the Local Makers Market at Bodhi Wellness Centre.
Our promo of the day was a choice of 8 flavours to mix and match for a 6-pack on special. :) Plus we got to show-off our new branded bucket we received as a generous and thoughtful gift. We were in good company with our friends at Forest Cove Farm, Valley Girl Naturals, Healing Forest Botanicals, In the Spirit Natural Products, Sage and Stone Wellness, Mix and Mash Art, The Scented Bohemian, Anupaya Quality Goods, Sister Moon Gems and Herbs, and Sigrid Naturals. Amazing people. Great products. All local. Man, this area sure has everything you could possibly need! We scored some sweet gifts for our family and joked that the reason we do these markets is to make enough money to spend on the awesome products made by our friends. Live local. Shop local. Support local. OTTAWA!!! We are here!! This is HUGE! Our friends at EPIC Fitness + Lifestyle have welcomed our brew into their facility alongside their healthy smoothies and bulletproof lattes in the Basecamp Café. EPIC Fitness + Lifestyle is a full service Personal Training studio, gym and alternative health care company located in the heart of Beechwood Village in Ottawa. EPIC offers a multitude of health services including Functional Personal Training, Holistic Nutrition, Physiotherapy, Naturopathy, Massage Therapy, Energy Healing, and Pelvic Health Therapy. The movement room is also host to over 10 different group exercise classes taught by certified functional trainers, yoga instructors and movement instructors that help include HIIT classes, advanced classes, and various yoga classes. Founder, Stephanie Karlovits decided to take her longtime background in Personal Training and acquired designation of Registered Holistic Nutritionist, and overhaul her EPIC Fitness gym to become EPIC Fitness + LIFESTYLE. Stephanie acknowledged the lack of overall happiness and success in clients even after they had met their weightless or training goals, and dove deep into uncovering what REALLY worked. The 4 pillars of the EPIC LIFE were created, combining Functional Training, Holistic Nutrition, Nature and Self-Care to target every aspect of healthy living. A formula developed for success + highly trained professionals = an epic life !! We are highly impressed with the facility and services. Having known Stephanie (and Kerri!) from working together back in the GoodLife Fitness days, we have seen the business grow from a dream to a reality and beyond. EPIC has now developed their own supplement product line! You definitely want to check out this place (you can even just pop in to pick up a booch!) and stay tuned for what's coming up next! We're so excited to have four flavours in Dandelion Foods!!
A one-stop shop for all your organic, local, natural foods and health products, Dandelion Foods is a beautiful health food store located in Almonte, Ontario. Open 7 days a week, the store features a large assortment of supplements, vitamins, beauty and health care products, fresh produce, bulk foods, freezer foods, locally made items, grab-and-go meals, and specialty products to accommodate any diet or food allergy. The selection and arrangement of the store is just as open and welcoming as the staff. Highly knowledgeable and friendly, the team at Dandelion Foods will great you with a smile and have you feeling like you've known them for years. The perfect opportunity to meet the staff and local farmers and makers is coming up on June 16, as the store celebrates their 5th year of DandyFest, a day of sampling and learning about the fantastic benefits of the featured local products. Prizes, live music, a BBQ, live animal area and 10% off in store will be sure to create lots of buzz around town from 10am until 2pm. We're so grateful to be in Dandelion Foods, especially alongside our friends at Artizen Kombucha, who have such a huge following in the shop. We get to cozy up on the shelves, like the friendly entrepreneurs we are. What an awesome feeling to have local businesses working together and supporting each other! Laurentian Brew Kombucha is back at the Nanabush Cafe and The Algonquin Canoe Co.- Swisha, Quebec. Just a short drive from Deep River, you can rent a canoe or a kayak for the day on the Ottawa River. This season, The Algonquin Canoe Co. is putting in new docks, and offering fishing day trips. Return after your adventure on the water to have a bite to eat at the cafe. In addition to crepes, breakfast, smoothies and salads, new on the menu this year are Greek and Caesar Wraps. The cafe will be in full swing shortly and you can even get here by boat. Can't beat Summers on the river! Pharmasave Golden Lake has kombucha! This beautiful newly renovated Holistic Care Pharmacy just opened their doors a few weeks ago. Owner Livia Vodenicar and staff celebrated their Grand Opening on May 18 with sunny skies, prizes, a and a BBQ. Servicing the town and surrounding area for their health care needs, this Pharmasave is located in their heart of Golden Lake, Ontario. We're excited to have our healthy brew stocked in the fridge in store. Congratulations and best wishes of success! Luck was on our side as the weather took a turn for the best and skies cleared up just in time for the first Deep River Farmers' Market of the season.
We were reacquainted with our market friends from last year and welcomed new neighbours including Dana's Delectables, Ashleigh Ann's Bagels, and Forest Cove Farm. Market goers filled their baskets with fresh produce, homemade goods, and handmade products. We had fresh raspberry kombucha and jun on tap, kombucha soap and stainless steel reusable straws were available for purchase. Back by popular demand were kombucha freezies AKA booch pops and this year we really amped up the fruit. Filled with half raspberry kombucha and half organic raspberries (seriously soooooo many raspberries!), these booch pops packed a serious healthy, fruity punch. A big thanks once again to all volunteers who make this market possible, and to all attendees who make it thrive. Note: Our booth won't be at every market this season, but are looking forward to attending the next market in Deep River as customers rather than vendors. Welcome back Maple Rose Kombucha! We're pleased to tell you that after a long wait, our Spring seasonal kombucha has returned. New and (nutritionally) improved, this batch of Maple Rose was made using local maple sap instead of water, local maple syrup (we boiled ourselves) instead of cane sugar (typically used in the fermentation process), and organic rose petals. The taste is subtle, not very sweet, more like a fermented sap than a sugary maple syrup addition. Be prepared for a different tasting Maple Rose from last year's sweeter variety. Using local maple sap and syrup provides additional benefits to the kombucha given that maple syrup contains nutrients and minerals like zinc and manganese, antioxidants and phytochemicals. We suspect there is also beneficial bacteria present in the sap as this brew took almost a month to ferment, perhaps the sap bacteria was in competition with the kombucha bacteria. Lots of good stuff for your digestion! We hope you enjoy a different take on our Maple Rose. Let us know what you think when you fill your 1L glass bottles at The Olive Tree! Cheers! What a great place to stop! Whether you're looking for a quick snack, gassing up, getting your pet groomed, or looking for a gift for a friend, the Eganville Country Store has it all!
We love that all 8 flavours of our kombucha have found a home amongst many other locally made products available in the store including Engine House Coffee, Opeongo Soaps, art, clothing, decor, and local maple syrup. You know you've found a great spot when everyone one passing by will give a smile and wave to owner, Pat McDowell. First time we met, were welcomed like old friends; this is small town living at it's finest, folks! Add this place to your Summer road trip map, even if it's just to stop for a snack and some fresh air by the Bonnechere River. Laurentian Brew needs your support!
Help us get closer to winning up to $25,000 by voting for Laurentian Brew Kombucha in the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest. Voting period runs until May 13, 2018 and anyone can vote DAILY!! We greatly appreciate your votes! https://ca.smallbusinessgrant.fedex.com/home/detail/05ca4544-812b-408c-9220-672cfb3d3ceb#/gallery/detail/05ca4544-812b-408c-9220-672cfb3d3ceb Jan's Valu-Mart now stocks local kombucha!
We're excited to be featured in the healthy produce and salad bar section in Deep River's grocery store. Thanks to store owner, Jan Sunstrum, you'll see Mango Lassi and Cranberry Chill kombucha right alongside some of our favourites like Cedar Juices, and Renée's Dressings. We're always amazed at how much of a variety you can find here in town and appreciate the large assortment of fresh produce. Valu-Mart has seen a few changes over the past year and we're always on the lookout for what's new in store. Valu-Mart has been the centre of Deep River for quite some time. You could go so far as to say it has been an integral part of our social life. The locals will tell you they can't plan on just popping in for a quick shop because they'll run into about twenty people they know. Catching up with an old friend, checking up on local happenings, making after-work plans... all happening right in store. In addition to our many large grocery purchases (when you've got 6 in the family, it's either you're making one huuuuuuge shop a week, or you're there just about everyday!) we've enjoyed many a lunch from Valu-Mart, grab-and-go hot meals, and sometimes the deli section will surprise us with yet another new and exciting cheese. We've got to know the friendly staff (you know it's a great place to work when you're seeing some of the same faces for over twenty years!) and one of us even WAS an employee for three years (oh the high school Valu-Mart days! only just a few years ago, right!? ;) With all the departments of a large city grocery store, and very accommodating staff and services, you'll know why some out-of-towners come to shop in Deep River. We're stoked to have our kombucha on the shelves just for that reason. Come Summer time, Deep River becomes a popular spot for city folk to grab a bite to eat (an artisan kombucha too perhaps!?), and flock to the sandy shores of the Ottawa River. Summer is a-coming! A big thanks again to Jan and three cheers to our friends at Valu-Mart! Our kombucha has made its way to The Cottage Cup in beautiful Golden Lake, ON. This is going to make for pleasant delivery days come Summertime!
A gem of a shop, The Cottage Cup features fresh made-in-house goods, bulk coffee, a large selection of loose-leaf tea (have you seen that wall of tea!?), an amazing assortment of clothing and gifts, and locally made products. In the warmer months, you can grab a bite to eat at their food truck, The Boat House BBQ & Fries. Friends, this ain't your average food truck! In addition to the typical delicious food truck fare, there are healthy, gourmet options made with fresh, local ingredients. We can't wait to see what's on the menu for this year! Owners Amanda and Donaven have made The Cottage Cup a wonderful stop for both locals and tourists alike, combining the best in giftware and delicious eats. Most recently, they have launched their healthy freezer meals to go, spearheaded by our friend and fellow Holistic Nutritionist, Paula, of The Alternate Root. With so many reasons to make the scenic drive to visit The Cottage Cup in Golden Lake, it's a must to add to your list of day tours and a good excuse to grab a friend for a road trip. *FRIENDLY REMINDER* Hey all! We wanted to write a quick note about our 1L bottle program. We appreciate the support and participation in our 1L refill program at The Olive Tree in Deep River and LEAP Health Hub. We want to continue this on tap system as it is environmentally friendly and respectful to Mama Earth. But we gotta be real. Some bottles are not being rinsed and are left with gunk that's difficult to remove. Our bottles are washed and sanitized and repacked by hand and let's just say it's not our favourite job at the brewery (sorry to dash your dream job, Professional Bottle Washer hopefuls). We'd love for you to give a quick rinse to your bottle once you've finished that last sip of booch. To those who have been taking the time to rinse, we appreciate your efforts and say a little thank you under our breath each time. Hey Honey! Check out our latest beverage, Jun.
What is Jun, you ask? Jun is a fermented tea very similar to kombucha but instead it uses honey as the nutrient rather than cane sugar. A traditional kombucha SCOBY (A.K.A. the culture) cannot use honey for a nutrient source as the naturally-occurring antibacterial properties of the honey will damage the beneficial bacteria of the kombucha culture. Jun SCOBYs have adapted over time to be able to use real honey as its food source, creating a sweet, distinct honey flavoured drink with the same probiotic and beneficial acids as kombucha. In addition to the health advantages of kombucha, consuming jun will expose you to the numerous benefits of honey. Raw honey contains amino acids, enzymes and polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants that reduce free-radical damage and may help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. Consuming honey native to your area will also boost your immune system, can alleviate symptoms of a cough and sore throat, and may help decrease seasonal allergies. We use a premium raw Canadian honey that is 100% pure, natural, Kosher, and unpasteurized, providing you with the full benefits of a true honey. Our Nude Jun is unflavoured, keeping the brew traditional and simple to let the subtle sweetness of the honey shine through. Try our Nude Jun on tap at the Olive Tree in Deep River with our environmentally-friendly 1L refill program. We're offering homebrewing kombucha starter kits for purchase! Our kits come with everything you need to get brewing your own kombucha. All ingredients are 100% organic. Cost is $30 including tax. Complete Kombucha Starter Kit Includes: -SCOBY and starter liquid -2x 1L glass mason jar -1x organic green tea bag (for your first batch) -organic fair-trade cane sugar (measured perfectly for your first batch) -2x breathable filters to cover your brew -10 page colour instructional workbook -cheat sheet brewing reference card Message or email us to pick up your kit today. Happy Brewing! I spy with my little eye... something that is new at Bruham Food Mart!
You can find two flavours of locally made kombucha on the shelves of this local store. Bruham Food Mart is a family owned and operated neighbourhood grocery store that has been serving the Valley for over 20 years. Bruham Food Mart is just off Boundary Road on Bruham Avenue, located between Brums Dairy and Colborne's Fish & Chips. The store is open 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. 7 days a week and boasts a large range of products including fresh produce, canned goods, baking supplies, dairy, and a bulk foods section. There is a deli, a bakery, frozen foods, and a meat department with fresh meat cut daily. Bruham will also take special orders for parties or specific requests and has gift certificates available. The friendly staff at Bruham know their customers by name and their excellent customer service certainly doesn't go unnoticed. Combine that with great weekly specials, and you have a recipe for a successful shopping experience. We traveled to Artizen Kombucha in Perth this past weekend to attend the 2nd annual Intimate Summit of Kombucha Brewers from around the area. The list of kombucha breweries is expanding and it was great to meet the makers and catch up with friends from last year.
In attendance this year were Pyramid Ferments, Buchipop, Vox, Vivo, Artizen, Laurentian Brew, Alex May - Kombucha Scientist, and the founders of Boochfest, Drew and Samira. Missing were Culture and Loon, as they both had prior commitments (the busy life of a microbrewer!). We enjoyed good food, tasty kombucha and bubbly jun, talked shop and shared equipment and brewing details. Alex discussed lab findings and shared his knowledge from his studies of kombucha in the U.S. (thanks Alex!). How cool is it that we can all meet together and unite as fellow brewers, helping build an alliance and shape the mold of the kombucha brand as a whole!? We're excited to be part of a growing industry that understands the importance of gut health and sees the benefit to offering an unpasteurized, small-batch, healthy alternative beverage. There are some great festivals coming up this Summer specifically showcasing the talents of local kombucha brewers including BOOCHFEST in Ottawa July 22, 2018 and the 2nd annual Ontario Fermentation Festival (founded by Pyramid Ferments) in Picton on August 4, 2018. Commercial and artisan brewers will be sharing samples and selling their product, and both festivals will also have an amateur home brewer contest. We hope to see you there! BIG THANKS once again to Dasha and Seb for opening up their home, organizing the meeting, and showing us around their brewery! |
